As a Real Estate agent it’s hard enough to be in a competitive industry but now we are vying for the attention of buyers and sellers even more so by big names like Zillow, StreetEasy and now Realtor. Realtor.com recently acquired Opcity for $210 million in which they are adopting their lead generation model.
A spokesperson for Move Inc. says they have started “in several small to mid size markets” to which they will expand the Opcity model to more than a dozen markets in the coming weeks. Much like Zillow and StreetEasy, Realtor will now be screening leads prior to distribution. This has sparked conversation and concern as agents may be getting less leads and may have to pay more per lead.
A spokesperson for the company confirmed that buyers will not necessarily be speaking with a local rep, but said they will be connected to a local agent. “One of the reasons we recommend all buyers work with an agent is that agents have unparalleled local expertise,” the spokeswoman said. “We are not trying to replicate that — just making the connection.”
